Netflix has acquired the film rights to the New York Times article It Happened One Flight which went viral in December 2017. As the story goes, two strangers sitting in different areas of the plane met on a cross-country Virgin America flight via a seat-to-seat chat conversation.
Noah Braun, sitting in seat 9C, on a whim, initiated a seat-to-seat chat with a completely random seat number, 24A. He did not know or see who was sitting in seat 24A but he sparked a chat anyway with a simple Hello. The stranger in 24A, Desiree Garret, with nothing to do on the cross-country flight, responded back with a simple question mark. But Noah’s persistent chats snowballed into what turned into a five-hour long chat conversation between the two strangers, both of whom agreed to not see each other while on the plane.
Instead, Noah and Desiree planned to meet once off the plane, at baggage claim. Less than a year later, they are engaged to be married.
Production is slated to begin in January 2019.
